Old Masters International
Luxury Papers
We are building this page to feature some of the most high-quality items to be found in Milan and throughout Italy, quotidien treasures specifically "Old Masters" in terms of their craftsmanship and longevity. For the moment, we are eager to offer to you some of our most-favorite Italian paper: the "Amatruda" of the Amalfi Coast. The product of a long and glorious history that begins with the Arab expansion to Europe during medieval times, by 1200 Amalfi had provided paper for official correspondence, public proclamations and private use to the courts of the Angioini, the Aragonesi, the Spanish viceroyalty and the courts of the Bourbons.
The direct descendent of an ancient lineage of paper, and amid difficulties of all kinds, the Amatruda paper is the only kind of its quality that is still produced by hand with the traditional methods originally used. In the words of the Italian journalist Giorgio Zampa in Il Giornale: "It may be said that somewhere there is some company still making paper by hand, but I would venture that only with difficulty could it ever be on a par with that of Amatruda."
Twenty sheets, off-white, European size 'A4' (slightly larger than 8.5 x 11): $50.00
